How to use this workflow
Allow microphone access
Start the tuner and allow the browser to use your microphone. Microphone access requires a secure context such as HTTPS or localhost and can also be blocked by device permissions.
Choose a tuning and one string
Select Standard, Drop D, Half Step Down or DADGAD, or use Auto. Choose a target string when you want to avoid automatic string changes.
Pluck, adjust and check again
Mute the other strings and wait for a stable note. Adjust gradually using the sharp/flat indication. Stop the tuner when finished to release its microphone stream.
Standard guitar tuning reference
The tuner uses equal temperament with A4 fixed at 440 Hz. The following frequencies are calculated reference values rounded to two decimal places; they are not measurements of your instrument.
Swipe or scroll sideways to read all columns.
| String, low to high | Note | Reference frequency |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | E2 | 82.41 Hz |
| 5 | A2 | 110.00 Hz |
| 4 | D3 | 146.83 Hz |
| 3 | G3 | 196.00 Hz |
| 2 | B3 | 246.94 Hz |
| 1 | E4 | 329.63 Hz |
When the reading jumps or shows an octave
Strong harmonics, room noise and other ringing strings can make a detector follow the wrong component. Pluck again, damp the unused strings and compare the target with the reference tone. A reading near the right note does not prove the correct octave.
The tuner detects incoming pitch; it cannot turn tuning pegs or assess the mechanical condition of an instrument. Input quality varies with microphones and devices. The current interface does not offer a different concert-pitch calibration.
Common questions
Why does the browser not show a microphone prompt?
Check the site permission and operating-system microphone setting. Also check that the page is opened in a secure context and that a microphone is available.
Can I tune without microphone detection?
The target-string buttons include reference tones for matching by ear. Use an appropriate target and check the octave as well as the note name.
